Through volunteering, funding and other support we aim to have a positive effect on the communities in which we operate.
Walking to support community issues
In 2014, we launched our inaugural Weatherford Walks event.
Thanks to 700 employee donations and registered walkers, with the help of more than 30 sponsors we raised approximately $150,000 for the Houston Area Women’s Center. The Center helps individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence, providing shelter, counselling and advocacy to support them in moving their lives forward.
Weatherford matched all of the donations received dollar-for-dollar. Platinum-level sponsors supporting the event included PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young LLP, Accenture and KPIT Technologies Ltd.

Inspiring the next generation
Weatherford is committed to inspiring student interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through the STEM program.
We provided expert guided tours of our test rig facility as well as mentoring presentations regarding college options, internships and energy industry careers. We also provided two-week shadowing experiences for promising students at Kinkaid School’s Engineering Mathematics and Science Institute (EMSI). Our Well Engineering and Project Management teams met EMSI students and IPAA students to offer an overview of the energy industry and our role in it. The students were also able to sit in on planning meetings, research and laboratory tours.
Giving something back
Over the past year Weatherford employees in the US have also volunteered on a one-day build for Habitat for Humanity as well as setting a new milestone raising funds for multiple sclerosis in the BP MS 150 bike ride event. The company was also the proud sponsor of Houston’s IPAA Texas Wildcatters’ Open golf tournament.
SUPPORTING LIFE-SAVING CAUSES
Weatherford Canada is proud to support children’s hospitals, making a difference for the lives of children in our area.
For the third year in a row we supported the work of the Stollery Children’s Hospital and Alberta Children’s Hospital. In January, a team of Weatherford volunteers worked the phone lines during the Corus Radiothon for the Stollery Children’s Hospital, helping raise more than $20,000—the most in history for our time slot—for the hospital which served more than 210,000 patients last year. Our participation in the Caring for Kids Radiothon for the Alberta Children’s Hospital helped raise more than $1.94 million.

ENRICHING LIVES ACROSS MEXICO
As part of our commitment to local communities in Mexico, Weatherford sponsored a wide range of socioeconomic development initiatives that touched the lives of many.
This included the refurbishment and extension of schools, housing improvement programs, construction of historical museums, healthcare centers and development of ecological parks.
Members of our UK Sports & Social teams agreed to focus fundraising activities on a local cancer support organization.
CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity for anyone affected by any type of cancer at any time from diagnosis onwards. We are hoping to build on past efforts and match the £10,000 we raised for The ARCHIE Foundation, a charity making a difference to the lives of sick children in the North of Scotland and the Islands.
SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS AND ORPHANS
In Angola we are continuing a partnership that began more than 12 years ago.
As part of our ongoing commitment, Weatherford makes a monthly donation to the ADPP Vocational Professional School Cabinda in Angola where we have been supporting the school fees for 35 of the school’s new boarding students.
At the Biomedical Simulation Center at the University 11 de Novembro, we committed to donate equipment and practice dummies for the training of doctors and nurses under a three year cooperation program. In addition, we will provide funds for the construction of a wall and water tank for the Orphanage “Lourenço Amadeu” in Cabinda.
MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA
SUPPORTING INDUSTRY EDUCATION
Weatherford is closely involved with a number of universities.
In Egypt, we continued our internship program for oil and gas students with Cairo University, arranged technical sessions for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Young Professionals from various O&G universities and initiated a training program for graduates in the oil and gas field, which included career coaching.
In the UAE, we participated in the SPE Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) University Challenge Program and hosted 14 students. We also supported the Petroleum Institute Internship & Students Exchange Program, ensuring the placement of students as interns for eight weeks during summer, and took part in the Young ADIPEC Program for 14-17 year olds.
Weatherford supports education and communication for a new generation.
At Gubkin State University of Oil and Gas, we repaired and equipped an auditorium for learning and trainings. In addition to arranging presentations and lectures for graduates to enrich their industry knowledge, we also supported young scientists by sponsoring the International Students Scientific and Practical conference ‘Oil and Gas Horizons’, an annual event for talented youth from different countries that strengthens scientific collaboration and business communication between young Russian and foreign experts.
